Father-Son Hobby Strikes Gold
Gold Rock Worth $5,500
COLFAX, Calif. -- A weekend hobby between a father and son struck gold when the 14-year-old teenager discovered a rock that holds six ounces of gold.
That means the rock, which was discovered by Jacob Hopkins during a fishing trip, has a price tag of $5,500.
"I went out there and grabbed it, and I was like 'oh my gosh that can't be gold -- it is,' and then I ran up to my dad and I showed him," Hopkins said.
The gold nugget was discovered at Rollins Lake, and others have arrived to the water hoping to have the same luck as Jacob.
"I was like come one come all. There has got to be more," said Brandon Stabb, who was searching for gold at Rollins Lake with a metal detector.
Even though Jacob's older brother passed by the gold nugget first, his dad, Mike Hopkins, can relate to his son's discovery.
"I was going to go slew some gold to go to the senior prom, and about second shovel a four ounce gold nugget rolled right in the tip of my shovel," Mike Hopkins said. "I stuck it in my pocket and ran to town."
The Hopkins go gold mining every weekend, just for fun.
But after Jacob's discovery they may have company.
Some locals said Jacob's find may start a gold rush and that there is enough gold to go around.

I forgot to include the cabbing workshop in the minutes. It is on Sept 20 at Beck's home, 1:00PM .  I guess we had to wait until end of meeting when Gary got ahold of Teri. There will also be help on your Southwest project for anyone interested. maybe silver work, or trim saw use. Teri will give tips on how to if you have an idea.
Glad to hear so many went to camp paradise. will be anxious to see the work.   I kind of like the new date in May . Could be a better time.  kjones
