MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, GARY BECK
It’s allmost time for our annual show. Sell all those raffle tickets before the show if you can! Come to help set up on Friday the 12th at 8am and enjoy some pizza. Come work at the show and have some fun interacting with the attendees and explain what you like to do in our hobby and what our club does the rest of the year. Karin emailed me some disturbing figures of our operating costs compared to our dues revenue and we are upside down. So, we as a club will need to come up with some solution to this new problem.
MARCH 13 and 14 - our annual show in Spreckels, please attend and give a helping hand man the tables.
Set up Friday Friday the 12th at 8:00 am
NOTICE: MARCH GENERAL MEETING - MARCH 22nd, NOT MARCH 15th
MAY 2ND - Clear Creek Day of Protest -- contact on Facebook - "Phanthom Duck" or leave message 831-444-7134

LONDON, United Kingdom (AP) --
Diamond supplier Petra Diamonds Ltd. said Friday it sold a 507-carat
diamond for $35.3 million (euro25.8 million), breaking the record for the
highest price ever paid for a rough diamond.
The stone — as big as a chicken egg and weighing just over 100 grams
(3.53 ounces) — was estimated as among the world's top 20
high-quality rough diamonds. It was discovered in September at South
Africa's Cullinan mine.
London-listed Petra said the gem was purchased by Hong Kong-based private
jewelry retailer Chow Tai Food Jewelry Co. Ltd.
The price reflected "the incredible rarity of the diamond, which combines
its remarkable size with exceptional color and clarity, and at 507.5
carats it is the 19th largest gem diamond ever discovered," Petra CEO
Johan Dippenaar said in a statement.
"It has the potential to produce one of the world's most important
polished gems," he added.
The Cullinan mine, located east of Pretoria, South Africa, was sold by De
Beers SA to a consortium led by Petra in 2007 for 1 billion rand ($148
million).
The mine has turned out some of the world's largest gems, including the
3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond that was cut to form the 530-carat Great Star
of Africa and the 317-carat Lesser Star of Africa set in the Crown Jewels
of Britain.
